I love our grants that have gone to support STEAM and STEM education at Great Basin Outdoor School and Sierra Nevada Journeys. When we are outdoors our senses are alive and our brains are sharp. We are aware of our surroundings and by using our bodies and our minds learning is enhanced. Sierra Nevada Journeys’ mission is to deliver innovative outdoor, science-based education programs for youth to develop critical thinking skills and to inspire natural resource stewardship. Great Basin Outdoor School will celebrate it’s 20th year in 2018 providing life-changing outdoor experiences for students through hands-on discovery in the outdoor classroom.
I experienced my own life-changing experiences as an instructor for Outward Bound in North Carolina and Colorado and traveling the world. Along with my own personal motto, “Keep Having Firsts!” – Outward Bound’s has been a mantra for most of my life: “To Serve, To Strive, and Not To Yield.” I believe Sierra Nevada Journeys and Great Basin Outdoor School capture and convey this spirit. Thank you! (Photo above was taken exploring Fiji.)
