Diane Olds Memorial Education Scholarship

Eligible applicants for the Diane Olds Memorial Education Scholarship are female students who are graduating seniors from Reed High School, Sparks High School, or Proctor Hug High School in Reno, Nevada OR those that are re-entry students who graduated from one of these schools. Applicants must be interested in the field of education as a career.

The deadline to apply via the online application is March 1st.

Minimum criteria to be considered for this scholarship:

  • Female graduating senior from Reed High School, Sparks High School, or Proctor Hug High School
  • Female re-entry student who graduated from Reed, Sparks, or Hug
  • interested in the field of education as a career
  • have a minimum high school GPA of 3.0
  • have a minimum 1100 SAT or 18 ACT (if still in high school)
  • agree to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and submit an unofficial copy of transcripts at the end of each semester they are receiving an award

You will need to upload the following documents with your application:

  • Transcript
  • SAT or ACT score report (if you are still in high school)
  • Resume
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher attesting to your interest in pursuing teaching as a career
  • Essay: Write a brief essay using two of the following prompts:
    • Tell the committee something about you that is not revealed in the application
    • Tell us what you hope to learn in college—that won’t be taught in the classroom
    • Describe what challenges you have faced in your life and how have you overcome them

This scholarship is renewable with reapplication and proof of pursuit of an education degree.

Who was Diane Olds?

Diane Olds was a retired K-6 Math Coordinator. A 30-year teacher with the Washoe County School District, Reno, Nevada, when she passed away after a short illness on July 18, 2008. Diane’s commitment to the education of all children, and most especially to poor and underprivileged children, was lifelong and profound.

To honor Diane’s lifelong dedication to the students who most needed her commitment, the Diane Olds Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Diane’s passion for the education of women. Eligible applicants are female graduating seniors from Reed High School, Sparks High School, or Proctor Hug High School in Reno, Nevada OR those that are re-entry students who graduated from one of these schools. Applicants must be interested in the field of education as a career.
