Having a clear vision is critical to ensuring that everyone on the Board and staff at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada is rowing in the same direction. The Community Foundation mission statement underwent a significant change five years ago, when we added the words “and leadership,” to read “Strengthening the community through philanthropy and leadership by connecting people who care with causes that matter.” In 2016, as part of our five-year strategic plan, we clarified the Community Foundation vision.
Our vision going forward is significantly impacted by what the community thinks and says. When we conducted 1:1 interviews and group meetings with dozens of community leaders and donors throughout northern Nevada, we listened to what community members thought we should be doing. From that direction, we have developed several statements to describe the community’s vision of what the Community Foundation should be. Here is a sampling of the top four, as rated by our Board.
- The Community Foundation is a leader in recognizing, highlighting, and addressing significant community challenges. We bring the community together to bring about positive change.
- The success of the Community Foundation’s initiatives is dependent upon a high-level of participation and engagement with residents and leaders in the region. Together we can improve our standing as a community and a region, ultimately increasing the quality of life for this and future generations of Nevadans.
- The Community Foundation helps donors ensure the greatest impact of their gifts, each year, and long-term. Having a multi-year giving plan can amplify the benefit and results of donations.
- Resident corporations have a unique responsibility, and opportunity, to help build a strong community. The Foundation helps corporations find meaningful ways to provide support that is relevant to them, impactful to the community, and a win-win for everyone.
You may recognize how these vision statements are guiding the direction of our community leadership, stewardship, and development activities. It is our goal that our vision is your vision. Our strategic plan is a living plan, and your ideas, your input, your vision for our community and region are part of that plan. If you haven’t interacted with our board and staff for more than a year, please give us a call. We want to get together. Big things are happening!
At the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, we connect people, like you, who care, with causes that matter.
